Success quote 18 "In three words I can sum up everything I've learned about life: It goes on."
Robert Frost (1874-1963) American writer & poet

The deer & the forest When a deer is being chased by a hunter it runs for the forest for cover. but it has a problem: it's antelors will get stuck in the branches thereby trapping it. so it first smashes its antelors on the ground and then sails through the forest to safety. we humans trying to get through life are similar to the deer. we also have antelors= our bad characteristics (ie. jealousy, anger, hatred) which gets us caught in everyday events and prevents us from sailing throgh life with ease. but really we are different from the deer because the trees really exist in the forest as opposed to us the events, people and things that cause us our distress, in reality don't really exist. it's our thoughts and actions that bring these things or the perception of these things into our lives. so if we would only think positive thoughts and act properly we would sail through life with much enjoyment.

Idea or ideals Valerie Pierce in her book Quick Thinking On Your Feet says that when thinking about our goals we sometimes confuse an ideal with an idea. conepts like hapiness, wealth, and freedom from stress are ideals, not ideas. an ideal is something we strive for: an idea is something we can put into action. we can all understand what ideals mean, but it is extremely hard- if not impossible- to define them because they differ from person tro person. one persons meaning of freedom from stress might be totally stress inducing for another. so, in defining your purpose you need to be sure you have a good idea and not a great ideal. you need a good idea that you can clearly define, and not just vaguely understand.for exampleif you want to be happy you must think of an idea that will give you happiness. striving for happiness will not bring happiness. she advocates using the "why" method we have mentioned earlier. keep asking why you want to achieve a certain goal until you get a clear sharp idea of what you want and why you want it and then you will be sasitisfied with the results.

go brag! We were hopefully taught not to brag or toot our own horn. whether for humility or just to not draw attention to ourselves. the problem is that most people take it to the extreme and even to themselves they can not brag. go ahead and try it .try listing all your good qualities for 90 seconds straight. after your looks, humor, style and friendliness keep on going. try it for 60 seconds. most people can't. how can we expect to feel great about ourselves if we deny ourselves the right to feel great. healthy self esteem allows us to see our qualities as a benefit to us and everyone in contact with us. and even to publicize our qualities to others can be good if it convinces them to listen to us and do whats best for themselves. especially in my practice where people are trusting me with their financial future, they want to know that i am confident and knowledgable in my field. and if i didnt go around tooting my horn about how i really help people most people would be doing things the traditional way and never create reall wealth. so i feel an obligation to brag. but no matter what happens in your life there will be people ( child, parent, student, congregant, employee) who can benefit from you being you. so go ahead and brag to yourself and to others or maybe go ask someone what they like about you and go help someone.

JimCarrey i've seen this interview in a few places and maybe you have too but its worth repeating. around 1990 jim was a struggling canadian comic trying to be an actor. he drove to LA and looking down at the city lights he wrote himself a check for $10,000,000. thats right ten million dollars and dated it 5 years ahead for thanksgiving 1995 and wrote in memo line "for acting services rendered". he carried it in his wallet everyday. it was getting pretty tattered but a month before thanksgiving 1995 he found out he was getting paid 10 million dollars for his role in dumb and dumber. now thats keeping your goal in front of you. it also shows that physical acts and affirmations help us achieve our goals.

diversification
Financial diversification is preached like the gospel as a sure proof way to reduce risk while maintaining a good rate of return. If you invest in negative correlated products like suntan lotion and snow shovels when one is up the other is down. Own stocks & bonds, U. S. & foreign stocks, index funds, energy, gold and real estate. Yet it seems that only the masses follow this strategy. From observing my clients, the more successful they are, the LESS diversified they are. Their money's ALL in either their business, real estate, or stocks they like. Even the best money managers (Miller, nygren, buffet, lynch), go all in on their picks. Professional poker players are the same way. As mark twain said " put all your eggs in one basket and watch the basket very carefully." Buffet said "diversification makes very little sense for those who know what they are doing." Economist john Maynard Keynes, " as time goes on, I get more convinced that the right method in investment is to put fairly large sums of money into enterprises which one thinks one knows something about." In our social and professional lives the same truth applies. We like to do everything and a little bit of everything every day. Instead decide what your core abilities and strengths are and focus ALL your attention on that and delegate everything else to others you trust. Even if you can’t delegate yet at least each day should be focused on one area; one day for planning and paperwork, one for work, and one for yourself. You’ll start to notice you’re more effective, have more time and feel more relaxed. Go ahead and start living like a champ.

success quote 6 If you throw enough pebbles you will eventually break a window. Syrian proverb

the success matrix
The Matrix, the movie has a lot of underlying philosophy in it. it is something i believed for a long time based on religous beliefs. but even on a psychological level there is much to learn from it. the plot is that the world was taken over by machines and put people into hibernation to feed off their energy. the machines created a computer generated world, the matrix, so the people felt as if they are really living and everyone was plugged into this reality. now what happens in the matrix is real ( people can get killed there and really die) but only because people believe it to be real. people who have been freed or were born from original humans can plug themselves into the matrix to battle the machines at risk to themselves. while in the matrix these real humans are not bound by the laws of nature because they KNOW that these laws dont exist. the plot is for a certain person to believe so intensely that he can destroy the matrix, that he accept the truth that reality isn't real and only then can he win the war. he persists untill he literally sees the world as the computer makeup it really is. when asked why humans are better than perfect machines he answers because we choose. we can decide our fate. and he ultimately sacrifices himself to save the world. the question is then, why are some people successfull and others not? why do some people choose their destiny while others have it chosen for them? why are certain people luckier than others, get the good breaks? the answer i think is because they choose to be successfull and lucky. they know that whatever they believe is their reality. they know the world is just a system designed to keep control on the simple minded. if you think lucky thoughts you will be lucky. i've heard of people who believe they will find a parking spot right in front of the store and get it. if you are looking and expect a deal to come by, not merely wishing, it will come. if you believe the deal will work out, it will. if you truly believe you will be wealthy, then by hook or crook you will be. not always the way you expected it , but you will get there. as long as we take responsibilty for our thoughts and truly believe, the universe is no match for the human mind.

phil mickelson
known as a lovable loser for going a dozen years and 42 majors without a win, phil mickelson's win last month showed that two years agos win in a major event was no fluke. he easily beat out tiger woods and some of golfs best. can you imagine going that long with no win? would you perservere with nothing to show for it? thats commitment! he earned $1.26 million yesterday. not bad for one event. but in reality it wasnt one event. it was a culmination of all those years of practicing and getting rejections till he finally got the yes he was waiting for. so the next time your in a slump of rejections ( deals, sales, sales calls) just remember you have to get through the no's to get the yes's and then payday will come.

the meaning of success
What is success? What does it mean to you? This is the first question I ask my clients for two reasons. First, success means something else to everybody and its important that we are aiming for the same goal . Second, without a definition of success how can we feel successfull, especially if success to you is a small accomplishment. So what does it mean to you? Is it defined in monetary terms? A quality of life? Leaving a legacy for your family? Society? Reaching a certain goal? Or is it at the end of the day knowing you did everything you had planned on. How do you feel when you have reached success? And more importantly and sometimes not too flaterringly, why is that your definition of success? If your success is monetary, why? What are you doing with it? And when you get to the very last why, that will tell us who we truly are. Don't misunderstand me, there's nothing wrong with enjoying the good life, and feeling good about our accomplishments but to truly feel successfull, to have that need totally filled, we have to succeed at that final "why". That final why may be self serving and selfish but as long as we are honest about the why and understand it , only then can we feel truly successfull.

my grandfather
my grandfather just celebrated his 90th birthday. now in an age of so many centenials, this may not be such a feat but how he made there is whats special. he was born in pre war europe. he went to work in physical labor at 12 years old to help put food on his parents table. he married, had a son but then his wife died in childbirth of his second son. he married his wife's sister as was common in that place and time. he built a house from scratch and moved in with his pregnant wife. but only 2 days later he was taken away by the nazis never to see his wife and son again. he never even saw his second son. after surviving the hells of aushwitz, he married my grandmother and came to america. he had an uncle who was helping his brothers financially but told him that because my grandmother had a rich uncle that he should get money from him. but my grandmothers uncle only lent him money and made him give headcheacks that he cashed on time without fail. they took in borders to help cover their living expenses and my granfather went to work as a roofer. there were times when there was no food on the table. he was known as a honest person. his quote was the actuall price and even if the job was bigger than expected, he would pay even the materials out of his own pocket. he always guaranteed his work and was good to his employees. he worked six days a week, but never on saturday (sabbath), never compromising his religous beliefs. eventually he got government contracts and built up a nice business. one night he gets a call that some hoodlums burnt down his entire business and he had to start the whole thing over again. whenever there were disputes over money with other family members he would tell my grandmother that its just money and we will get it some other way but we only have this family. he's been retired for 20 years now living at home with his wife, getting up at 5:30 am to be the first at synogogue every morning even when in pain from his back. his family is his pride, always helping them out, and has helped each of his 10 grandchildren and 18 (and counting) great grandchildren have a strong financial foothold to start life. hard work, belief in himself and god, and the love of family is his mantra and i hope i can follow in his footsteps.

successarexia
what is successarexia? if you show two photos to an anerexic person, one with a skinny person and one with a fat person and ask them to point to one that resembles a thin person they will pick the skinny one. but ask them which they ( at 75 pounds) think they look like and they will pick the fat one. so they are not distorted in what fat and skinny are rather it is their self perception. and all the convincing and talking in the world cannot change them. so too it is with a successarexic. with all their accomplishments big and small they only see themselves as failures. every success they have, has a specific reason but they feel overall they are not successfull and everything that happens is their fault. and the universe is out to get them. and all the talk in the world will not change that! success breeds success. so the only cure is obviously to start to feel successfull. the old adage that "the rich are just like you and me" is the farthest thing from the truth. the rich and successfull are the way they are is because they feel and think like successes. so a successarexic has to change his focus and to start small and say yes i did everything on my to do list today. i was a good person, father, spouce, friend today. don't only have big succeess goals, although you must aim for the moon if you want to reach at least the sky. and step by step, success by success you will develope into a success minded person. and then you will control the universe and when things arent going your way you know its just temporary because you are successfull and oppurtunity will come from the setbacks. its all in the way you think and feel. so go on and decide " i am successfull" and go reach the moon

are you the hitter or the pitcher
There once was a boy who went out into his backyard, with a bat and ball in his hand. He throws up the ball and says "I’m the greatest hitter in the world." Swoosh. He misses the ball. Once again he throws up the ball and says, " I’m the greatest hitter in the world" and misses again. Being a kid, undeterred he throws it up and says, "I’m the greatest hitter in the world." Looking down at the ball by his feet a big smile comes over his face as he announces " I’m the greatest pitcher in the world." Sometimes we get so focused on a certain goal for whatever reason (desires, social pressure or prestige) and are failing miserably and not feeling too good. If we would just shift our focus on what we are good at, we would be the happiest people around
